Disussion Group Messages

I had a little configuration issue with my site. Members should now be able to post discussion group messages.

Samba

Let's Saaaaamba!

Thank to Fredrik Lundh for pointing me to http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/textdocs/ENCRYPTION.txt which is a horrible document, but it got me by step one, and to Brent who got me by step two. That Encryption document should simply say:

To get Windows NT to mount a Samba volume do the following:
  1. In the /etc/smb.conf make sure the you have the lines:
      encrypt passwords = yes
      smb passwd file = /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd
  2. Then add users by typing:

    smbpasswd -a username password

That's it, that Easy! Why don't the doc's tell you that, in fact they have another document for WinNT that tells you to modify your Windows NT registry to do clear text passwords instead - that means each client machine would need that. Wrong!

I've gotten some email responses to my Samba problem. Still no resolution. I am going through this page.

I am working on the setup of the linux machine and I am having trouble with Samba. I am getting the message that the machine is not accessible. "The account is not authorized to log in from this station"

Now I have checked the smb.conf file which had no host restrictions, though I changed it and added the restrictions in to be the machines on this net. It had no effect. I am not even getting to the NT promt for a username and password to connect to that machine. Does anybody have any ideas where I should look now?

Go Bob!

This site is hosted seperate from the rest of the UserLand Servers for testing purposes. So I have not "hooked up" the global glossary. Maybe when I do the next server update in a few days...

Bob, I can show you how to hook into the flow. It's important.

Can you document it on the Internal DG so I can tie it into the Info page.
